Railway Services Enhanced Capacity to Divert Crowded Migrant Laborers

Tides of migrant laborers, who moved from rural areas to big cities, have become heavy passenger transport loads for the railway services in east China's Anhui Province.

According to the latest statistics from the railway station of Bengbu City in Anhui, where many of the migrant tides originated from, the railway services transported more than 750,000 passengers between January 24 and 31, with an annual increase of 8 percent.

Laborers from the rural areas in Anhui started on January 26 to leave their home by train for economically developed areas like Shanghai and Guangdong.

Fuyang Railway Station transported 19,000 passengers on January 26 and a record-high 43,000 on January 31, according to local railway sources.

The Branch Railway Bureau of Bengbu arranged over 20 temporary trains for Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing.

Daily passenger transport capacity of the railway has reached 100,000, according to official estimates.

The annual Spring Festival or Chinese New Year holidays, which are regarded by the Chinese as the most important opportunity for annual family reunions, caused an drastic increase in the number of passengers on transport services.
