HK Administrative Secretary Praises Immigration Department for Good Work

Anson Chan, secretary for administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, commended staff of the Immigration Department for their hard work and professional service provided to the public during her visit to the Immigration Department Wednesday.

During a tour of the Lo Wu Control Point, Chan was briefed by Director of Immigration Ambrose Lee and other directorate officers on work of the department and the measures adopted to handle the heavy passenger flow.

She was informed that between January 22-29, 2001, a total of two million passengers passed through Lo Wu, showing a daily average of 0.25 million. Compared with the peak period of last Lunar New Year, there was an increase of 11 percent.

Chan was also briefed that the Immigration Department had adopted special measures to facilitate passenger clearance, including flexible staff deployment, contra-flow measures and lengthening the operating hours of the control point where necessary.

During her meeting with the directorate of the Immigration Department and staff unions, Chan discussed the importance of providing efficient and customer-oriented service to the passengers at the control points.
