Experts Ready for India Quake Trip

Chinese earthquake experts Tuesday failed to leave for India for "certain technical reasons", according to Zhao Ming, an official at the State Seismological Bureau.

Zhao declined to give more details of what the "technical reasons" were and did not disclose a new departure time.

A total of nine top experts on earthquake research, who had previously gathered and planned to leave Beijing for India Tuesday, had all gone back to their own homes, Zhao said.

"Although when exactly they will go has not been decided, the experts are prepared to go at any time," Zhao said.

With the help of advanced equipment, the experts had planned to aid in observing aftershocks and predicting further development of the fault.

The mission was officially approved by the India Government, according to the China Central Television Station.

Besides China's seismology circle, many other people here are paying attention to the disaster-stricken Asian subcontinent country.

The Chinese Government have donated 5 million yuan (US$603,000) worth of materials to India, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation said.(China Daily)
