Taiwan's Mainland-Bound Investment Doubled in 2000

Taiwan's mainland-bound investment doubled in 2000 to US$2.61 billion amid expectations that both would join the World Trade Organization, according to sources.

Approved mainland-bound investment soared 108.11 percent year-on-year in 2000 with the easing of restrictions by the Taiwan government also boosting mainland-bound investment, it said.

The expansion was also encouraged by China's provision of land and tax incentives.

Taiwanese businesses have poured an estimated US$45 billion worth of investment into the mainland.
