World-Class High-Tech Fair to Be Held in BeijingThe fourth session of one of China's grandest high-tech events will be held between May 10 and 15 in Beijing.Formerly known as the China (Beijing) International High-Tech Industries Week, the China International High-Tech Industries Week & China (Beijing) High-Tech Science and Technology Fair will use its new name from this session. The success of the previous three sessions had a far-reaching influence on the development of China's high-tech industries and also promoted the country's international image. China is striving to make the high-tech industries week become a world-class fair in the future. As well as routine activities such as exhibitions, academic forums and trade talks, the organizing committee is to co-operate with some international organizations to host their professional meetings during the fourth session of the event. "In line with international practice, the ability to host such meetings is regarded as a basic criterion for a world-level fair," Yao Wang, executive vice secretary-general of the organizing committee, said. The Annual Meeting for the International Commerce Association of Finance and Credit has also decided to open during the 2001 high-tech week. Sources from the organizing committee have revealed that so far, 23 governmental and business delegations from the United States, Canada, Germany, Israel, Australia and New Zealand and more than 150 world leading enterprises and financial institutions, including ABB, a Swiss-based company specializing in power generation, General Electric, IBM and CISCO Systems, have applied to attend the event. "We will spare no efforts in creating more opportunities. We will expand the exhibition area, open more transnational trade talks and host high-level international academic forums, providing convenient and efficient services for overseas experts, entrepreneurs and governmental and business delegations," Yao said. The exhibition area of this session is expected to cover 100,000 square metres, four times the size of last year's, while six categories of 20 forums and 14 trade talks will be held. source: China Daily |
