China Mobile Selects Siemens, Openwave for Internet Services

China Mobile Communications Corp has chosen Siemens and Openwave Systems to supply mobile Internet services, according to China Daily.

China Mobile will use the Openwave WAP UP.Link Server and Mobile Management Server £¨MMS £© subscriber auto-registration for wireless Internet access to over half of its subscriber base. Openwave Systems is the alliance of Phone.com and Software.com.

CMCC subscribers will be able to access their email, calendars, personal organizers, news and other information through their handsets. A handset can also be used to activate an account.

Siemens Shanghai Mobile Communications£¨SSMC£© , will implement the backbone WAP-Gateway Systems using Openwave's technology in Shanghai and Guangzhou with the capacity for more than 1,000,000 mobile Internet subscribers.

Deployment is planned for the first calendar quarter of 2001.
