Huge Crowds of Passengers Flocking to South China after FestivalThe railway stations in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, have been crowded with migrant workers from the rural areas of central and east China in recent days following the Spring Festival.The number of migrants arriving at the two railway stations in the city reached 128,000 on January 28, and the daily number is expected to exceed 150,000 at the beginning of February. According to the provincial economic and trade committee, more than 30 million passengers left the province during the first 15 days of festival transportation period, up 35 percent from the same period of last year. That means the province is still to face transportation pressure of passengers returning after the festival. The local government of Guangzhou is making efforts to provide transport to help disperse the crowds at railway and long-distance bus stations. At the same time the airlines between the mainland and the island province of Hainan were also very busy during the festival. Visitors from inland areas flocked to the sand beaches of the island to enjoy the sunshine. All tickets for flights to and from the province before the mid period of the first month of the Lunar new year were booked despite the increase in ticket prices. |
