Post-Doctoral Research Fruitful in Shanghai

Shanghai, one of the leading scientific research centers in China, had built 114 mobile post- doctoral research centers by the end of 2000.

Scientists recruited by these post-doctoral research centers grow at an annual rate of 22 percent in recent years. The majority of them studied in the United States, Japan, Britain, France and Canada before being enrolled. Their age ranges from 29 to 34.

Meanwhile, institutes of higher learning in Shanghai have joined hands with local large and medium-sized enterprises to set up 23 post-doctoral centers in enterprises, covering metallurgical, automotive, machine-building, petrochemical, space, information, bio-medicine, financial and other high industries.

The move is aimed at absorbing post-doctoral scientists to conduct research on high-tech projects at these pillar industries and convert their research findings into production. And their work has benefited local economic growth and technological advance.
