High-Tech Index of Major Chinese Regions: Shandong

Xinhua is releasing dispatches on major economic indicators of ten major Chinese regions on a quarterly and annual basis.

The ten regions include Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Henan, Liaoning, Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, and Chongqing. They make up the bulk of the Chinese economy.

The following is the latest development in the high-tech industry in Shandong Province, east China, in the year 2000:

Scientists and engineers in Shandong achieved a total of 3,728 major scientific and technological developments last year, 21 of which won national awards.

The high-tech development zones in the province reported a total revenue of 76 billion yuan (about US$9.15 billion) and a pre-tax profit of 6.8 billion yuan.
