Bush Calls Mexican, British Leaders

US President George W. Bush continued reaching out to world leaders Tuesday, calling President Vicente Fox of Mexico and British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Bush had a very brief chat with Fox, focused mainly on Bush's plans for a Feb. 16 visit, said White House spokesman Ari Fleischer. "The president's delighted at the prospect of visiting Mexico," Fleischer said.

In their 10-minute conversation, Bush and Blair discussed scheduling a meeting soon. "The two agreed that an early meeting would be useful," Fleischer said.

No dates were set for a trip to Britain. Fleischer said U.S. and British officials would discuss possible dates later.

Tuesday's calls came after Bush spoke Monday with Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien and announced plans to visit Canada in April for a summit of North American and South American countries.

Bush's calls are in line with custom among new presidents to touch base with allies, said national security spokeswoman Mary Ellen Countryman.
