Performance at Spring Festival

A group of retired women perform at a Spring Festival temple fair in Beijing Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001. The women, from Hebei province, near Beijing, get together to practice dancing in their spare time. Spring Festival, the week-long holiday which marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year, is the most important annual festival in China. The Year of the Snake begins Wednesday.

Chinese red lanterns hung at temple fair

Chinese red lanterns are hung at a temple fair in preparation to celebrate the Chinese New Year at Confucian Temple in Nanjing, Jiangsu province January 20, 2001. The Chinese New Year of the Snake will be celebrated by millions of Chinese worldwide on January 24. Chinese are traditionally going back to their hometowns for the New Year or Spring Festival.

Installation of Three Gorges' First Eternal Ship Locks Completed
