Art Activities Dominant in Celebration of Spring Festival

Chinese traditional art performances have always played a major part in celebrating the Spring Festival, the country's most important traditional holiday, which falls on January 24 this year.

Dozens of art troupes in north China's Tianjin Municipality have already rehearsed a series of performances including Peking operas, songs and dances for the rural audience.

Apart from these, the folks in the suburban counties also rehearsed a series of cultural activities themselves. Parties, temple fairs, flower fairs, lantern fairs and lion dances will add more festivity to the Chinese Lunar New Year.

Rural families still maintain the tradition of putting up couplets at the door, expressing their wishes for the coming new year. Besides the best wishes for the family members, the couplets this year also contain the people's wishes for a civilized and prosperous motherland in the 21st Century.
