Symposium Marks President's Proposals on Reunification

A symposium was held in Nanjing Monday to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the issuance of the Eight-Point Proposals on Peaceful Reunification of the Motherland by President Jiang Zemin.

Participants re-studied Jiang's speech on January 30, 1995, and recalled the progress Jiangsu has made in exchanges with Taiwan.

They said that it is a holy mission for the whole party and the Chinese people to realize the reunification of the motherland and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation as early as possible.

They called on the Taiwan authorities to respect the will of Taiwan people for peace, stability and development, and to cast aside their wrong stand which blocks the development of cross- Straits relations.

They also urged compatriots from both sides of the Taiwan Straits to stand hand in hand and make new contributions to the cause of the reunification of the motherland.

By the end of last year, Jiangsu had approved 8,958 Taiwanese- funded enterprises, involving US$17.2 billion of Taiwanese investment in contractual terms, of which US$9 billion have been materialized.
