China's Consumer Price Index Slightly Up

China's consumer price index rose slightly by 0.2 percent in the first 11 months of 2000, according to the latest figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The consumer price index for urban areas climbed 0.6 percent, while that for rural areas contracted by 0.2 percent, both compared with that of the previous year.

Price index for services posted the strongest growth of 13.3 percent on the national level.

Indices for residence, medicine and medical care recorded slight rises, while that for food, clothing, household facilities and articles, traffic and communication appliances, recreational, educational and cultural articles slid between 0.6 and 6.2 percent.
