Chinese President Jiang Zemin met Monday morning with United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who is here on a three-day visit to China.  

Wreath & Flowers to Mark Anniversary of Lenin's Death

Pro-Communist Moscovites carry a Soviet flag, a portrait of Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin, a wreath and flowers making their way to the Mausoleum of Lenin to mark the anniversary of his death at Moscow's Red Square on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, with the Historical Museum in the background. Lenin, who led the 1917 Bolshevik revolution and founded the Soviet Union, died of a massive stroke in 1924 at the age of 53.

Burdens Down, Income Up for Wenling Fishermen

The first Spring Festival of the new century is approaching, some fishermen of Wenling City of Zhejiang Province are selling their marine aquatics at the market. Wenling City government has adopted a series of tax-reduction policies to ease burdens of fishermen and this has greatly helped increase these fishermen's earning.

Battle of the sounds

Foreigners who enjoy singing Chinese songs took part in a contest on Sunday night in Beijing. Entitled "Songs from our Land", this event was the six annual such contest hosted by Beijing TV station. There was hard-fought competition among singers from all over the world, who competed for first place, while expressing their appreciation of, and passion for, Chinese culture.
