Man Survives Three Years with Two New Lungs

Fan Baosheng, who suffered from serious lung disease, has survived three years since he got two new lungs.

The 31-year-old patient was sent to the Beijing Anzhen Hospital at the end of 1997 while he was suffering from severe pulmonary artery hyperbarism.

Doctors there discovered that Fan's illness had reached an advanced stage. To save his life, the doctors conducted a lung-transplant operation on him on January 20, 1998.

This is the first time in China to succeed in transplanting two lungs at the same time, setting a record in China's advanced medical technology of doing lung transplants.

Hospital sources said Fan is now in good condition.
