Jiangsu Introduces Billions of US Dollars in Taiwan Investments

Last year, Jiangsu Province, one of China's economic powerhouses, approved 719 projects involving US$3.28 billion in contractual Taiwan investments.

With the arrival of US$1.6 billion in 2000, Jiangsu has brought in over US$9 billion in Taiwan investments so far. The figure has placed Jiangsu among the most advanced in attracting investments from Taiwan.

Sixty of Taiwan's top 100 enterprises have invested in Jiangsu Province, with seven doing so last year for the first time. Also for the first time in 2000, eleven listed companies in Taiwan also invested in Jiangsu.

Last year, Jiangsu launched 120 Taiwan-funded projects involving an investment of at least US$10 million.

Of the 700-plus Taiwan-funded projects undertaken, 300 are engaged in the electronics information industry with contractual investment of about US$2 billion.

More than 90 percent of the Taiwan companies have chosen as their investment targets the areas along the Yangtze River and the southern part of Jiangsu Province, such as Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Nanjing and Nantong.
