Chinese Citizens Urged to Enhance Belief in LawChina's top judge urged Sunday that the general public should enhance their belief in and loyalty to the Constitution and laws, noting such belief and loyalty is vital to maintaining social stability and judicial impartiality.Xiao Yang, president of the Supreme People's Court, made the call at a symposium attended by judges and mass media professionals. Xiao called upon the mass media professionals to exert efforts to help build up the belief and loyalty together with judicial departments. Xiao said that building up of the belief in and loyalty to law is of vital necessity in the move of ruling the country according to law, while mass media can play the role of publicizing and enhancing the belief and loyalty. In terms of the coverage of judicial work, Xiao pointed out that mass media should safeguard the authoritativeness of law and law enforcement, the coverage should be objective, accurate, just and absolutely in accordance with requirements of the Constitution and laws. Xiao encouraged the mass media to oversee the practice of courts across the country, saying mass media and courts share one ultimate goal, namely, safeguarding justice. Mass media play an important role in popularizing knowledge about law, upholding justice and eliminating corruption, said Xiao, emphasizing that mass media can help build up citizens' belief in the government, the Constitution and laws. At the symposium, 69 news writers covering courts were awarded prizes conferred by the Supreme People's Court. |
