US to Introduce Some Changes in Cooperation With Russia, AmbassadorThe new US administration will revise approaches in some areas when conducting cooperation with Russia, US Ambassador to Russia James Collins said here Saturday. He made it clear that this change will also happen in the financial aspect of US-Russian cooperation. However, the ambassador hoped the foundation of bilateral relation will stay intact since this meets the interests of both countries. Collins said the US budget earmarks some US$1 billion per year on U.S.-Russian programs, and that he believes such cooperation will continue without problems. Collins said it is too early to say whether the new US President George W. Bush will meet his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, before their scheduled meeting within the framework of a G-8 summit this summer. But the dialogue will continue, he added. Bush was inaugurated as the 43rd US president Saturday. |
