President Attends Forum with Non-communist Party Figures
To push forward the current modernization drive, accomplish the reunification of the motherland and safeguard peace and promote common development in the world are the three major tasks for China in the new century.

This remark was made by President Jiang Zemin, who is also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Sunday at a gathering for the coming Spring Festival, the Chinese Lunar New Year, which was held by the CPC Central Committee in honor of non-communist party leaders and people with no party affiliations.

The forum was presided over by Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Vice President Hu Jintao was also present at the gathering. Li and Hu are both members of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau.

In his address, Jiang called for joined efforts to carry out the three major tasks and pledged to further adhere to, improve and develop the country's multi-party cooperation and political consultation system under the leadership of the CPC.

To better the system will ensure the great rejuvenation of our Chinese Nation, he stressed.

The enormous achievements of the Chinese revolution in the 20th century are made under the correct leadership of the CPC and through the joint efforts of Chinese people of different ethnic groups including non-communist parties and people with no party affiliations, Jiang noted.

Attending the gathering were leaders of China's non-communist parties and celebrities without party affiliations as well as senior CPC officials.
