Large Amounts of Counterfeit Money Confiscated in Chengdu

Police in this capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province have cracked 153 cases involving counterfeit bank notes with a total face value of 6.4 million yuan.

Seven cases each involved counterfeit money with a face value of 100,000 yuan.

In the six-month campaign to crack down on counterfeit currency, 19 criminal gangs have been smashed and 216 suspects arrested.

During the campaign, police officers have cracked Sichuan's largest counterfeit money case since the founding of New China 1949. Two principal suspects were arrested. Police confiscated counterfeit bank notes with a combined face value of 5.39 million yuan that the suspects brought to Chengdu from the coastal province of Guangdong.
