Ethiopia Disagrees with Eritrea over Buffer Zone Issue, UN EnvoyEthiopia and Eritrea will postpone their meeting scheduled for next Tuesday in Nairobi due to disagreement over the issue related to the establishment of a buffer zone between the two former belligerents, local Waltar Information Center (WIC) reported on Saturday.Joseph Legwaila, UN's special representative to the peacekeeping mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea, was quoted as saying that "the Ethiopians have on time given us their redeployment plan. The other side (Eritrea) disagrees with the redeployment plan. That is the little disagreement that we are encountering." However, the UN special envoy insisted that the recent problems witnessed in the process were only minor incidents in the quest for peace, and by no means posed threat to the implementation of the peace accord. He has expressed hope that the disagreement would be resolved as soon as possible, saying that "the Temporary Security Zone will be created very soon anyway." Ethiopia and Eritrea failed to reach an agreement over the demarcation of the buffer zone at the second Military Coordination Commission (MCC) meeting which was held on December 28, 2000.
