China National Swimming Team Mapped out 2001 Training Plan

The 2001 training plan of the China National Swimming Team will start from April 25 to prepare for the East Asian Games in May, the 9th FINA (FEDERATION INTERNATIONALE DE NATION) World Championships in July, the 21st Universiade (World Universities Games) and Goodwill Games in August, according to sources form Chinese Swimming Association.

The team consists of coaches and swimmers present in last Olympic Games and some excellent newcomers, and there may be minor changes in individual coaches and swimmers.

To carry out a series of preparation work for implementing the 2004 Olympic honor-winning plan, the Swimming Administration Center under the State Sports Administration held in succession last November and December a symposium on the 2001-08 development plan for the swimming event in Shanghai and a national swimming training class for coaches at which lectures were given by world-renowned swim experts, this was followed by the conducting of national collective training of swimmers in the plateau area of Haigeng, Yunnan Province.

Considering that 2001 is the National Games Year, the Swimming Administration Center has decided that coaches and swimmers of the National Swimming Team shall temporarily undertake training in various provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions where they are in to prepare for the National Swimming Championship scheduled for mid-April this year. Some of them are now engaged in the short-course swim series match held by FINA.
