Beijing - Utah Join Hands in Developing Software Technology

Beijing and Utah will join hands to set up an international software technology institute to boost Beijing's software industry, as informed from a symposium jointly held January 19 by the two parties on the strategic cooperation and internationalization of software technology.

Co-sponsored by the governments of Beijing and the Utah State of the US, the symposium brought forth a memorandum of understanding for the bilateral cooperation and exchanges on software industry.

Recently, the Utah State has, reportedly, seen rapid development in software, medical facilities and bioengineering with its Salt Lake City reputed as the second large software production base next only to the Silicon Valley. Whereas Beijing is at the head of the country so far as the industry scale, capability for sustainable development and business promotion is concerned. In addition, it boasts of over 60,000 software professionals, taking up 35 percent of the national total.

By way of inter-governmental cooperation it will help spur on the international cooperation between institutions and enterprises to carry out technology exchanges, product exports, personnel exchanges, industry investments, contracting projects and combating piracy.

According to the agreement the two parties will also make the best use of the rich resources of Utah's teachers and managing experience to press forward Beijing's IT industry and vocational education, as well as foreign language teaching. The proposed international software technology institute is now under planning.
