Easy Visa Procedures Facilitate Foreign Tourists

More than 74,000 foreign tourists have visited Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province in south China, since visa procedures were simplified in last November, an increase of eight percent year on year, an official said Friday.

Under a new policy that was effective beginning last November, tourist groups to Hong Kong and Macao from countries that have diplomatic relations with China can enter the Pearl River Delta without visa for a stay of no more than six days.

However, they must apply for a visa if they want to extend their stay or visit other hinterland areas, according to Liu Ping, director of Guangzhou Tourism Administration.

Based on this policy, Guangzhou will further simplify entry procedures for foreign tourists in a bid to develop the Pearl River Delta into a world-class tourist attraction centered on Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao, the official said.
