Shandong to Develop Ten Electronic Information Giants

East China's Shangdong Province is set to establish in the next five years ten electronic information enterprises, each with an annual output value of ten billion yuan.

Shandong Vice-Governor Han Yuquan said that During the 10th Five Year Plan (2001-2005), Shandong will give top priority to the development of such industries as high-performance computers and outer equipment, high-speed wide-band networks, telecom products, high-intelligence information household electric appliances, new devices, and new electronic materials.

He said that the province will also focus on establishing a number of enterprise groups that will be able to adopt advanced foreign technology, be influential in China and have an annual output value of more than ten billion yuan.

Moreover, Shandong will increase investments in forming a group of large enterprises that will be high in the technological content and large in production scale.

Shandong currently has eight enterprise groups and 18 key enterprises in the information industry. It has decided to aid the development of eight enterprise groups including Haier and Heisense.
