US Welcomes New Philippine President Arroyo
The U.S. Embassy in Manila on Saturday welcomed the appointment of the new president of the
Philippines
Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. "We have had an exceptionally strong working relationship with new President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in the past, and are looking forward to working with her to strengthen U.S.-
Philippine
relations even further," the U.S. embassy said in a statement.
"We are pleased to join the new President in our common efforts to enhance these ties." The embassy also said the
United States
was pleased the presidential crisis in the country had been resolved without violence and in accordance with democratic and constitutional procedures.
