US Inauguration Timetable
The stage is set in Washington DC as George W Bush takes office as the 43rd President of the
United States
. He will take the presidential oath on January 20.
The timetable of the ceremony at Capitol Hill is as follows:
1630GMT
Call to order and welcoming remarks by the Honourable Mitch McConnell, US senator and Kentucky chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. Invocation by the Reverend Billy Graham.
1650GMT
Dick Cheney is sworn in as US vice president.
1700GMT
George W Bush takes the presidential oath and makes his inaugural address. This will be followed by a blessing and the rendition of the national anthem.
1800GMT
The new presidential team have lunch with congressional leaders.
1915GMT
The new US president leads a parade up Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House.
