400-million-year Sea Creature Fossils Discovered in North China

Fossilized pieces of nautilus, a kind of animal which lives in the sea 400 million years ago, have been recently discovered in Xinglong County, north China's Hebei Province.

The fossils were found on the surface above a large water cave,in which groups of fossils of leopard bones and teeth were also discovered.

Experts said it is the first time that nautilus fossils are found in the limestone area to the east of the Wuling Mountain, the highest peak of the Yanshan Mountains not far to Beijing.

The fossils have a high scientific research value. The water cave, also discovered recently, can be turned into a tourism spot.

An underground river inside the cave is only 16 meters below the surface.
