Sri Lankan Army Hands Over 21 More Tamil Rebel Bodies to ICRCSri Lankan army handed over another 21 bodies of separatist Tamil Tiger rebels who were killed in the latest military operations in the northern Jaffna peninsula to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Thursday evening.ICRC spokesman Harsha Gunawardena said that they transferred the bodies of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in three fishing boats from Gurunagar Jetty to Kalmunai point in the north of the country. He added that these bodies were later handed over to the LTTE rebels in Wanni, their headquarters in the north of the country by ICRC officials there. Government forces on Wednesday handed over first batch of 20 LTTE rebel bodies to the ICRC at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital and later to the LTTE rebels in Wanni. Government forces killed another six LTTE rebels in the battlefield in the north on Thursday. The fierce fighting between the two sides have subsided following two massive offensives against LTTE rebels on Tuesday and Wednesday. Meanwhile, Media Minister Anura Yapa told a news briefing on Thursday that military operation against LTTE will continue until the rebels bring some concrete proposals to the table. |
