Kabila's Body Being Viewed in Zimbabwe

The viewing of the body of the late Congolese President Laurent Kabila was being held on Friday afternoon at one of Zimbabwe's army barracks No.1 Commando in Harare.

Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to Zimbabwe Kikaya bin Karubi told Zimbabwe News Agency that members of the public are welcome to attend the body viewing between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. local time at No.1 Commando.

The body will be then flown back to Kinshasa on Saturday morning, he added.

A 25-member delegation, comprising DRC cabinet ministers, army officers and Congolese journalists, arrived in Harare on Thursday evening to collect the president's body for burial in Kinshasa next Tuesday or Wednesday.

Kabila was last Tuesday shot five times by one of his aides, who was later killed by other bodyguards as he tried to flee.

Kabila's son Major General Joseph Kabila has been named as interim president of the central African country.
