Vietnam Attaches Great Importance to Vietnam-China Friendship: FM

The Vietnamese party, government and people consistently attach great importance to the traditional good-neighborly and friendly ties and all-round cooperation with the fraternal Chinese party, government and people, said Vietnamese Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien.

Nien made the remarks here Thursday evening at a reception to celebrate the 51st anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Vietnam, which was given by Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Qi Jianguo.

Nien expressed his delight in the new development of the friendly cooperation between the two countries in the past year, saying that the brilliant success of the recent visit to China by Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong has marked a new stage of the development of the two countries' relationship.

The two countries have issued the joint statement for all-round cooperation in the new century and signed the agreement on the demarcation of the Beibu Gulf and the agreement on fishing cooperation in Beibu Gulf, thus increasing the trust of each other, laying a new foundation for the development of the all-round cooperation between the two countries in the 21st century, noted the Vietnamese foreign minister.

Nien expressed his confidence that the traditional good-neighborly and friendly relationship and all-round cooperation between Vietnam and China will be more strongly developed in the new century.

Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Qi Jianguo made a speech at the reception, saying that in more than a half of the century, the peoples of China and Vietnam have been establishing a profound friendship in long revolutionary struggle and the cause of the socialist construction.

Qi said General Secretary Jiang Zemin and General Secretary Le Kha Phieu have defined the guidance for Sino-Vietnamese relations as "long-term stable, future-oriented, good-neighborly and all-round cooperation."

The Chinese ambassador said that the Chinese party, government and people extremely cherish the long traditional Sino-Vietnam friendship and will make unremitting efforts to promote the development of the two countries' good-neighborly and friendly relationship and all-round cooperation.

President of the Vietnam-China Friendship Association Nguyen Canh Dinh, Deputy Director of the External Relations Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Hoang Thuy Giang and many other Vietnamese officials attended the reception.
