Talks on Montenegrin, Serbian Relations Occur in BelgradeYugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica held talks with Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic and the Serbian Prime Minister candidate Zoran Djindjic on relations between Montenegro and Serbia here late Wednesday, according to an official news release.During the discussion, the three leaders agreed to handle relations between Montenegro and Serbia through dialogue, to show more tolerance toward each other under the principle of respecting democracy, as well as assuming responsibility for the security and stability of the region, according to the news release from the presidential office. The relations between Montenegro and Serbia, the two republics that form the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, have been a serious concern since last December when the Montenegrin government released a scheme to re-design relations between the two republics. Yugoslav President Kostunica then issued a warning against any unilateral action that could hurt long-term relations between Montenegro and Serbia and warned that a split in the federation would have "grave consequences" for Yugoslavia. Kostunica again made it clear in a plan published on January 10 that unity between Montenegro and Serbia should be maintained and any readjustment concerning government administration should be based on that principle. |
