Panama Receives Extradition Documents from Cuba

Panamanian Foreign Minister Jose Aleman confirmed here Wednesday that the Cuban government delivered proper documents to the Panamanian government last Monday, calling for the extradition of four anti-Castro Cuban-Americans.

Aleman said that with the documents, Cuba has fulfilled the requirement for additional information requested by Panama.

The Panamanian Foreign Ministry has started a review of the documents for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles, Pedro Ramon Rodriguez, Guillermo Novo Sampony, and Gaspar Escobedo Jimenez, allegedly involved in a conspiracy to murder Cuban leader Fidel Castro during the 10th Ibero American Presidential Summit in Panama City last November, the minister added.

The four men were arrested by Panamanian authorities on November 29, 2000, in response to the extradition petition by the Cuban government, said Aleman.
