Vice Premier Advocates Agricultural RevolutionChinese Vice Premier Wen Jiabao said in Beijing Wednesday that China should actively push forward a revolution on agricultural science and technology so as to develop an internationally advanced innovation system.He made the remarks at the conclusion of the National Agro-technology Conference in Beijing. Noting that the country has reached a new stage of agricultural development, Wen said that the general level of agro-technology, especially innovative capabilities, are still lagging behind advanced international standards. He urged the country to actively push forward the revolution of agro-technology in line with the government's guidelines of the development of agricultural science and technology. According to Wen, the agro-technological revolution should be introduced into five fields, including development and research, application of technology, personnel training, innovation and public education. He emphasized that the country should also push forward the reform of the scientific and technological system of the agricultural sector. He said that special attention should be paid to the resolution of three problems, including the integration of research and production, the use of market forces and restructuring of research institutes. He held that all localities set up a framework of investment in agro-technology by supplementing government input with funds from other channels. He also urged the localities to adopt policies inducing innovation and commercialization of agro-technology and pay attention to the development of the technological information network in rural areas. |
