Per-capita Income of Shenzhen Farmers Near 10,000 Yuan

Farmers in Shenzhen reaped a rich harvest in 2000 and their per-capita income saw a steady growth. According to latest statistics, the total rural economic income in Shenzhen last year reached 11.84bn yuan, and the per-capita income of the farmers soared to 9,270 yuan, an increase of 8 percent and 14.01 percent over the previous year respectively.

Of the rural economy, the income from the primary industry was 886m yuan, the secondary industry 6,744m yuan and the tertiary industry 4218m yuan, with the latter two accounting for 90 percent of the total.

The development of township enterprises constitutes the main reason for the income rise of Shenzhen farmers, with nearly 80 percent of their income coming from these enterprises.

Meanwhile, adjustment to the agricultural production structure has been fruitful, which also helped farmers earn more. For example, flower cultivation has become a new economic growth point in Bao'an district; an agricultural base has been initially built up in Longgang district centered on animal husbandry, with fruits and vegetables, and aquatic products as the two wings, thus forming an "iron triangle" for increasing farmers' income.

In addition, with the rapid development of the rural collective economy in recent years, the total value of the city's rural collective assets has exceeded 40bn yuan and the per-capita share of collective assets is approaching 180,000 yuan, and 80 percent of Shenzhen's rural economy come from the rural collective economy.
