State Council Information Office Announces Weekly Press Conference

Zhao Qizheng, director of the Information Office of the State Council, told newsmen January 17 that his Office is going to hold a press conference every week for Chinese and foreign reporters in 2001.

Zhao disclosed the information office's latest decision at a press conference for Chinese and foreign media Wednesday, January 17,, which was hosted by Dai Xianglong, governor of the central bank.

The press conference arranged by the Information Office under the State Council is of the highest level in China and has been held irregularly before.

The newsmen were also told that the office altogether had 40 press conferences held in 2000. It has put to formal use its News Releasing Hall -- Chaoyangmen Nei Da Jie, No. 225, Beijing, since July 19, 2000.
