The 12th National Book Fair to Be Held in Yunnan

The 12th National Book Fair will be held in Kunming this September, giving the people of southwest China's Yunnan province the opportunity to enjoy a feast of books, according to China Radio International.

This year's fair, sponsored by theYunnan provincial government, aims at promoting the development of the west and the cultural development of China' s minorities.

Deputy Director Yang Muzhi for the State Press and Publication Administration, says the book fair should give a boost to local publishing enterprises, as well as facilitate the development and promotion of local culture.

Yang Muzhi points out that there are 25 minority nationalities in Yunnan, accounting for 14 million of the province's population. These various nationalities have made great contributions to China' s cultural development.

September's book fair will, he says, be a good opportunity for these people to introduce their culture and customs to the world, which in turn, will benefit their cultural development.

During the fair, all kinds of books, periodicals and electronic publications will be exhibited and traded.

Forums on China's WTO entry and the development of the west, in relation to local publications, will also be held.

Publishers from other countries and regions, including Hongkong and Macao, as well as Thailand, Singapore, will be invited to the fair.
