China's National Welding Research Center Founded

China established its sole national welding research center in Harbin, capital of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, in a bid to get a foothold in the world's welding technology market.

With an investment of 40 million yuan (US$4.8 million), the national welding research center will mainly conduct research to develop advanced welding technology.

The center, mainly based on Harbin Welding Research Institute, will also develop and manufacture high-tech welding materials in addition to its more than 100 kinds of special welding materials, which may well replace foreign products of the same varieties.

These special welding materials developed by the center are widely applied to the production of nuclear facilities, electricity generating equipment, and petrochemical facilities.

Harbin, as a key industrial city in China, is planning to develop into a welding industry center taking a 50-percent share at the Chinese market.
