Vietnam Attaches Importance to Relations With US

Vietnam attached importance to the relationship with the United States, Vietnam's National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nong Duc Manh said here on Tuesday.

Manh made the remarks while meeting with a visiting US House of Representatives delegation led by Democratic Party leader Richard Gerphardt, according to reports of the Vietnam News Agency.

The Vietnamese NA Chairman highlighted Vietnam's active cooperation in searching for American servicemen reported missing in action during the Vietnam war.

He expressed his hope that the United States should help overcome the consequences of war in Vietnam, including the settlement of issues relating to Vietnamese armymen missing in action, mine and bomb clearance and Agent Orange victims.

During the meeting, Gerphardt thanked the Vietnamese people for their cooperation in MIA issues.

Gerphardt also expressed his belief that the US Congress would ratify the Bilateral Trade Agreement in the near future.

Gerphardt was also received by Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on the same day.
