Estrada Prosecution Receives Major Setback

The prosecution hoping to win Senate impeachment of Philippine President Joseph Estrada received a major setback Tuesday when a majority of senators voted to reject opening bank account records the prosecution said would prove the president guilty of corruption.

In an 11-10 vote, the 21 senators sitting as an impeachment court rejected a prosecution attempt to put in evidence records of a bank account in the name of ''Jose Velarde'' that they charge is actually the receptacle for massive slush funds and kickbacks amassed by Estrada.
