Chairman Li Peng of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China Tuesday visited the International Tech Park and Infosys Technologies in Bangalore, India's Silicon Valley.

Li, who is on a week-long official good-will visit to India, said the 21st century is a hi-tech century as well as an information century. China and India are exploring the road to development with the help of science and technology and each has its own advantages in science and technology as well as in information technology. He hoped that the two countries can learn from each other and enhance their cooperation in these fields.

Tuesday morning, Li toured the tech park, which hosts 94 Indian and foreign companies, focusing on information technology, communications, bio-technology and financial services.

He first went to Huawei Technologies India Private Ltd., the first Chinese company in the park with 260 Indian and Chinese employees. Huawei India plans to expand its staff to 1,200 by the end of 2001 and develop itself into an important development center for cutting-edge communication software, a platform for software cooperation and development and a training center for software management capability improvement.

Then he visited Lucent Technologies, Sanyo LSI Technology Indian Prv. Ltd. and Tata Consultancy Services, the largest software company in Asia.

In the afternoon, Li visited the Infosys Technologies, India's software giant, and was welcomed by the Infosys staff. He described his visit to India as "fully successful," which he said will enhance friendship between Chinese and Indian peoples.
