China to Hold Int'l Industry Fair

An international industry fair will take place from November 22 to 27 in Shanghai, organizers said Wednesday.

More than 2,000 enterprises, 20 percent of which are foreign- invested, will be present at the Shanghai International Industry Fair, said Shanghai Vice Mayor Jiang Yiren at a press conference in Beijing.

The exhibition will feature new products and technologies related to electronic information, Internet, bio-engineering, new materials, pharmaceuticals, electronics, cars and auto parts, household electrical appliances and environmental protection and energy, he said.

During the fair, forums will be held, said Jiang, who is also vice chairman of the organizing committee of the event.

The fair, with an exhibition space of 50,000 square meters, will be held at the Shanghai International Expo Center in Pudong New District.

The annual event will be sponsored by the State Economic and Trade Commission, Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Information Industry, Ministry of Education, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and Shanghai municipal government.

Two similar fairs have been held since 1999 in Shanghai, China' s largest commercial center.
