Congolese President Kabila Confirmed Dead in Coup Attempt
Laurent Kabila, President of the
Democratic Republic of the Congo
(DRC), was confirmed dead Wednesday by a DRC government official, according to reports reaching in Nairobi.
Edy Kapend, a senior military official and Kabila's aide, Wednesday morning confirmed on a national television that Kabila has been shot dead.
He appealed for calm and discipline in the army and urged the troops to refrain from using weapons until further order.
