Cuba Wants Men Who Plans to Assassinate Castro Extradited
Cuba presented documents to Panama asking for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles, and other Cuban-Americans, accused of planning the murder of Cuba's President Fidel Castro, during the Latin-American 10th Summit, the local press reported Tuesday.
Cuba's ambassador in Panama, Carlos Zamora, delivered over 10 volumes that provided reasons for the repatriation of Cuban- Americans Luis Posada Carriles, Guillermo Novo Sampol, Gaspar Jimenez, and Pedro Remon.
The aforementioned are accused of planning to kill Castro at the University of Panama auditorium, where over 2,000 people were in attendance, the report said.
The group was arrested for illegal association and possession of explosives in Panama. A local attorney is investigating the charges.
Local student organizations are also preparing a denunciation of the accused for trying to use university premises, which would have put at risk the lives of thousands of people.
Posada Carriles, a former member of the United States CIA (Central Intelligence Agency), reportedly escaped from a Venezuelan jail. He was condemned of downing a Cuban civilian airplane and killing 73 people in October 1976.
