Microwave Radiation Used to Fight CancerChinese experts in Shanghai have successfully used microwave radiation to prevent leukoplakia from developing into cancer.Microwave radiation is a traditional physical therapy and its resistance against tumors has been stressed in recent years. Leukoplakia, which is marked by white patches on the mucous membrane of the tongue or cheek, lasts for a long time and can be checked if effective therapy is used. Zhou Zengtong, professor at the Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to the Shanghai Second Medical University, explored safe methods of using microwave radiation to cure the disease. Zhou experimented on rats, finding that microwave radiation can reduce the rate that cancer develops by 13.8 percent. On that basis, the professor used microwave radiation for the first time to treat the white patches, and the result showed that it is effective against abnormal epithelial hyperplasia and cancer.
