World Conference on Sport and Tourism
The first World Conference on Sport and Tourism, organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Tourism Organization (WTO), will be taking place on 22 and 23 February 2001 in Barcelona, Spain. The purpose is to look at the close links, which exist between sport and tourism and their mutually beneficial impact on society in terms of sustainable economic development.
Organized in cooperation with the government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council and the Spanish Olympic Committee, the conference will focus on four main themes: Sport and Tourism in the Economy; the Business of Sport and Tourism; Human Values Fostered by Sport and Tourism; and Marketing and Promotion of Sport and Tourism. It will bring together representatives of Olympic Games Organizing Committees, ministries responsible for tourism, International Sports Federations, National Olympic Committees, broadcasters and experts on tourism development and the sports industry.
