City Issues China's First Local Rules on Making Law

The Municipal People's Congress of Tianjin, north China, enacted the city's Regulations on the Making of Local Laws Tuesday.

This is the first such law ever promulgated in the country, since China enacted the Law on Legislation on March 15, 2000.

The municipal people's congress has worked out over 150 local laws and legislative resolutions since China's reform and opening up to the outside world in 1978.

According to the regulations, local legislative activities must be compatible to national interests as a whole and prevent local and departmental protectionism.
