Declaration for Friendship Between Peoples of China and Japan IssuedSeventeen Chinese and Japanese unofficial organizations issued a declaration on the promotion of friendship between the peoples of China and Japan in the new century at a conference Tuesday, January 16.Among the organizations were the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, and the Association of Dietmen League for Japan-China Friendship. Song Jian, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and president of the China-Japan Friendship Association, said at the meeting that more than 5000 Japanese guests attended a large gathering for Sino-Japanese cultural and tourist exchanges last May, when Chinese President Jiang Zemin delivered a speech on Sino-Japanese relations. Song noted that good-neighborly relations between China and Japan conform to the fundamental interest of the peoples of the two countries, and benefits peace, stability and prosperity of the Asian Pacific region. He called for broader cooperation between the unofficial organizations of the two countries, especially the exchanges between Chinese and Japanese youth. Yoshiro Hayashi, president of the Association of Dietmen League for Japan-China Friendship, said at the conference that the Japan-China Joint Statement, Japan-China Joint Declaration and the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between China and Japan, are the foundation for the relations between the two countries. China and Japan should develop both government-to-government exchanges, and people-to-people cooperation as well, he said, adding that the unofficial organizations of the two countries will further cooperate in the political, economic and scientific fields. More than 150 people attended the meeting. |
