First Seismic Array Debuts in Shanghai

Composed of 16 sub-systems and with a diameter of 3 km, a seismic array has been basically established in Sheshan, Shanghai, and will be put into observational use this March. It will raise Shanghai's ability to detect weak earthquake signal by 10 times greater, according to a January 15 dispatch from Shanghai.

After four-year studies, the Shanghai Bureau of Seismology has finally filled up the blank in national seismological studies, thereby making China the fourth country, behind the United States, Japan and Germany, to have the ability to develop this type of monitoring system.
